"And the King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’"
~ Matthew 25:40
I suppose there's no argument when it comes to the ultimate difference-maker. Thankfully, His job is done and the victory is won.
But, Scripturally speaking, there are a host of human examples of difference-makers as well.
Ruth was a loyal and steadfast support to a woman who only saw her life as bitter. One woman changed that life, not to mention a whole lineage while she was at it.
Esther saved her people, by being in the right place at the right time, and being willing to step up when God called.
A stuttering Moses reluctantly saved those same people a millennium before. He didn't think he was the man for the job, but God said, trust Me, I'll give you all you need.
Gideon was a hot mess, but God called him a mighty man of valor, called him to lead, called him to victory... but, not in the traditional sheer numbers way of human thinking, but by becoming small and allowing God to shine.
Caleb chose wholehearted steadfastness and still makes a difference today.
It's not always about a parting the Red Sea level of difference-making. If you're called to do truly epic things, God bless. May your days be filled with ease and grace in the Spirit as you walk it out.
But, not all of us are called to be a Moses or a Joshua or a Paul.
I bet if you made it your life's purpose to give an authentically joy-filled smile to everyone you meet, it would make an epic difference. If that's what God calls you to, the Spirit will be there to grant the joy, I'm certain of it. Frankly, I know a few people who seem to be called to this kind of interaction with the world, God bless them.
It can be the small things.
Ruth thought she was making a difference for one grieving woman. That was her whole purpose. But, God made it something more.
Before my mother passed, I told her that my feeling was that if I never did anything else of value in my life beyond having had the privilege of walking with her through the last year of her life, of being her support, then I would have lived a life of worth. Hopefully I'll offer much more of value and worth, but, point being, it's not always the mission of William Wilberforce or the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. for us all.
Some of us are called to be the whispering difference-makers.
It may be small, but it is no less significant or valuable or worthy of our heart and effort.
Whatever you're called to... Whatever the difference...
May your days be filled with ease and grace in the Spirit as you walk it out.
In any given moment, in any given difference-making calling, be it small or large, mid-sized or grand, may you be greatly blessed in the endeavor.
God is calling you to it and I know you don't want to miss out on being the blessing or receiving/living out the blessing of doing the work of His hands. So, when the whisper of that Still Small Voice arises, step up and step out, you beauty... even if it's just a smile or a wave or a hug. There may be nothing minor about it to the person on the receiving end. God knows what they need, and He knows what you need as well, and He is weaving it all together for the good...
Abba Father,
You are so sweet and good and kind. Thank You for writing us into Your story. Thank You for creating on purpose to live a life of purpose.
Thank You helping us to hear the whispers of the Still Small Voice when it comes to the differences You would have us make in this life. And, thank You for giving us the motivation and strength and will to obey quickly.
All of this we pray in the name of Your most Holy Son.
Amen.
"And do not neglect to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased." ~ Hebrews 13:16
"Therefore encourage and build one another up, just as you are already doing." ~ 1 Thessalonians 5:11
"Let us hold resolutely to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to spur one another on to love and good deeds." ~ Hebrews 10:23-24
"For it is God who works in you to will and to act on behalf of His good purpose." ~ Philippians 2:13
May the Good Lord bless you and keep you, friends... always, in all ways. Amen.
Bonus song of praise... (Funny, I'd never heard this song until I finished writing and went looking. I love it when the fit is so unbelievably perfect.) ♥
Sharables! ...and, hey, thanks for sharing. ♥
